About the role
We are currently seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer/recent Graduate to join our team, based Martinborough—a region celebrated for its award-winning wine, artisan food, and lively calendar of community events. You’ll be part of a small team who is responsible for a wide range of environmental health functions, including food licensing, licensing under the Health Act 1956, liquor licensing, and managing environmental issues such as trade waste, noise monitoring, infectious diseases, and bylaw enforcement. You’ll also play a key role in health promotion initiatives and provide education and advice to the public on environmental health and licensing matters.

Our preferred candidate will have:
- National Diploma in Environmental Health Science or equivalent as outlined on the MOH site (Environmental health officers | Ministry of Health NZ). If you do not meet this requirement your application cannot be considered.
- Working knowledge of relevant NZ statutes, regulations and codes of practice.
- Relevant practical experience, and preferably in the application of public and environmental health in a local government situation, however we will also consider a graduate for this role.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to public service and the ability to be able to work with a diverse range of people.
- The ability to maintain objectivity where required.
- Proven conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
