A unique opportunity has become available for a combined Environmental Health Officer (EHO) and Food Act Verifier to be based in this region.
Food and Health Standards contracts these services to Councils and has been doing so for many years. The company commenced the health and food verification services for the Buller District Council during 2001 and Grey District Council is a new contract that started in January this year.
The EHO role involves all aspects of the Environmental Health functions of the Territorial Authority including the inspection and compliance of registered premises (hairdressers, camping grounds and offensive trades), substandard insanitary housing, recreational water quality, investigation of infectious and notifiable food and water-borne diseases, investigation of nuisance conditions, regular inspection of the district to protect and conserve public health and involvement in civil emergencies and natural disasters.
The Food Verifier role under the Food Act 2014 as a co-regulator with the Ministry for Primary Industries encompasses the third party verification of Council-registered template Food Control Plans and providing advice and assistance to Council key staff, food business operators and the public.
Support, supervision, back up and training will be provided by our team of very competent personnel based in Christchurch.
Auditing Solutions NZ Ltd is the sister company of Food and Health Standards and is accredited by JAS-ANZ to ISO 17020 and is an MPI recognised agency: www.auditingsolutions.co.nz The successful candidate would be trained in the competencies required and be accredited under Auditing Solutions NZ to perform as a Food Act Verifier.
There is flexibility with the qualifications sought because this is a combined role. The person could already be a third-party food verifier and be trained as an Environmental Health Officer or the person could be a qualified Environmental Health Officer and be trained as a Food Act Third Party Verifier.
The person would be based in either Greymouth or Westport region.
A vehicle, mobile phone, computer and the necessary equipment will be provided by the company.
