About Us

Safe Food Services Ltd was founded in April 2016 by Karen Perry, who brings over 20 years of food industry experience in customer and regulatory compliance, audit and inspection and facilitated training roles.

Following the successful completion of her education within the United Kingdom (UK), in Food Technology, Food Marketing and Business Management (Higher National Diploma, Bachelor of Science (Honours)), Karen commenced her food industry career as a laboratory technician in an ice-cream manufacturer compliant to ISO 9001. This initial introduction to a documented Quality Management System placed Karen on a path of customer and regulatory compliance.

Prior to relocating to New Zealand (NZ), Karen gained domestic and international food industry experience through several food sectors and roles. Whether working in a dairy (ice-cream, dairy desserts), manufacture of prepared meals (pizza, bagels), meats (small goods), fresh produce (primary, secondary processor and distributor), one of Karen’s main responsibilities was auditing of internal Quality and Food Safety Management Systems and those of their suppliers in accordance with regulatory, company, customer codes of practice and quality standards.

Since the introduction of the Food Act 2014, Karen transitioned to an approved verifier of risk-based measures, an evaluator of Customer Food Control Plans, an MPI peer reviewer of verifiers and the founder of Safe Food Services Ltd training services.

Karen’s unique position as an evaluator and verifier of risk-based measures allows her to create relatable training material which is aligned with the Food Act 2014 and associated legislation. Her enthusiasm, energy and creative ways of delivering food legislation has been positively received by those who have attended her workshops and online courses.

Testimonials and Reviews

Labelling Compliance Course “What an absolute pleasure it was to sit in your presentation and not even once get bored instead became very captivated and have a renewed perspective over the whole labelling subject which in the past I always tried to dodge. The content of the course and your presentation 10/10! I would strongly recommend that every EHO or Food Act Verifier (especially TA’s) get this training.”
EHO New Plymouth District Council.

“The Labelling Compliance workshop was interesting and easy to understand - I don’t think many tutors could have done that, as reading standards sometimes seems like learning another language!”
EHO Kaipara District Council.
