An opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Officer to join us at New Plymouth District Council. If you are motivated to make a valued contribution to the community and have a positive impact on the lives of thousands, this could be the role for you.

This permanent, full time, role is varied and challenging and includes carrying out the functions of a food safety officer, licensing inspector and a compliance officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of environmental service related duties including implementing the Food Act 2014, ensuring food businesses and other premises requiring registration are registered and routinely inspected or verified. You will also manage alcohol licence applications and compliance matters demonstrating your ability to interpret information and educate accordingly.

The ideal candidate will provide evidence of the skills as listed below:

·     A tertiary or postgraduate qualification related to food or scientific principles that can translate to the food sector

·     A formal qualification relevant to hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP)

·     Training in compliance fundamental skills

·     Work experience in a regulatory compliance

·     Knowledge of the Food Act 2014 and associated legislation

·     Skills specific to food investigations under the Food Act 2014 and associated legislation

We are also looking for someone with first rate customer service who is organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and drive business process improvement. You will be a natural communicator and your expert interpersonal skills mean you are an adept negotiator with an ability to resolve conflict. You will be comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team, and will take a collaborative approach to your work.
