This is a crucial and influential role which will ensure Wellington City Council remains a leader and an exemplar in the way we are responding to climate change.

Wellington City Council through Te Atakura - First to Zero, a blueprint for becoming a zero carbon city, has recognised the need for urgent action on climate change. For Wellington to thrive in a future of growing carbon constraints and climate impacts, we need to cut our greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our vulnerability to extreme weather events and rising sea-levels.There has never been a more exciting time to join us and play a critical role in driving sustainable and resilient outcomes for our city. The Manager Climate Change Response is a newly created senior leadership role with a strong mandate to lead and develop the strategies and initiatives to shape a comprehensive and proactive all of Council and City climate change mitigation and adaptation response.

You will drive organisational thinking to really put protection of our environment and climate change at the front and centre of all decision-making. Linking in with our resilience and waste minimisation strategies you will also lead the implementation and ongoing evolution of Te Atakura - First to Zero and associated action plans to enable the vision of Taone matua, taone warokore - Zero Carbon Capital. Climate change is a top priority for our council leadership and you will provide thought leadership on climate change matters for our elected members and senior leaders as well as on projects and programmes including Planning for Growth and Let's Get Wellington Moving. As such you will need to be someone who can confidently communicate and seamlessly build relationships in a political setting.

You will be an innovative thinker with a proven track record of driving climate change and/or sustainability outcomes and programmes and you will not be afraid to challenge the status quo. You will have a good understanding of the science underpinning climate change and experience or knowledge of the machinery of government.
